another poem

the prime directive

by Jeff LeMond

Life’s eventuality,

The program fades to black.

Far too late for sad regret.

No way to take things back.

They say in times like these a life; in seconds passes by.

Ones last evaluation.

The wrongs we can’t deny.

The words we left unspoken,

Such lofty plans we made.

Some promises were broken.

What part in life we played.

So many people in a life to help us through the pain.

Our watchers and our warriors, destroying the mundane.

As life goes cold and we grow old,

we lose them one by one.

The bits and pieces fall away,

Alas,  the race is run…

Our main objective here on Earth,  to do the best we can.

The prime directive; at our birth, the betterment of man.

Commiserate with others,

When they are sad and feeling low.

Embrace the ones you love so much.

And make certain they all know.

We still have time to do this right.

And do this right;  we must.

For in the end it’s you and me.

Diamonds.  Ashes.  Dust.
