One Last Chance by Jeff LeMond
If fate would grant me one last chance
to revisit moments past.
Undoing some of life’s mistakes.
And holding loved ones fast.
Erasing actions born of greed.
Avoiding carnal lust.
To see things; as they once were.
Through embellishment and rust.
I would spend the day out fishing
with my grandpa and my dad.
When we got home we’d talk about
the good time we all had.
I’d hang out with my sister more,
and spend more time at home.
Spend more time with childhood friends
and not quite as much, alone.
I’d take a walk down the road and buy an ice cold pop.
I’d soak up every nuance, until this had to stop.
Every smell, every sound, the voices from my past.
Embracing every moment, as if it were the last.
I’d sit on the porch with dad as he sang and played guitar.
When mom came in from grocery shopping,
I’d unload the car.
I’d tell more folks I loved them
and seek out true romance.
I’d probably make some new mistakes,
but wouldn’t it be worth the chance.
